Displayed on the floor, each piece in the series is composed of three separately printed images: a blank blueprint, a Google-Maps image, and a photograph of damaged sidewalks prepped for maintenance. Collectively the images reference the symbiotic relationship between those that design and maintain our cities’ pathways, and those that utilize them daily. The fissures in the cement have formed out of stigmetric systems: gradually breaking under the combined pressure of human tread, enterprising insect colonies, and resilient shoots. A cycle begins, creating a feedback loop of construction, decay and maintenance in which the object as a knowable whole undergoes a mutation, becoming a fragmented network of meaning-in-development. These sites of failure develop integrity from both within and outside their system of origin: establishing a collective rhythm of positive and negative vectorial alignment that paradoxically reduces objects or landscapes to infinity through a perseverance towards preservation.
